Acupuncture Shown To Provide Relief From Plantar Fasciitis Injury And Pain

In this video, an acupuncture practitioner details how acupuncture treatments for plantar fasciitis can help relieve pain and facilitate healing.

Plantar fasciitis causes pain around the area of the heel, and is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It is more common in athletic and active people – however, for some, just walking and standing on hard surfaces may cause painful symptoms.

Plantar fasciitis is defined as an inflammation in connective tissue that supports the arch of the foot. It is most often considered an overuse injury (repetitive stress) and is a common complaint in runners. After successful treatment, many patients are advised to get shoes that provide more support, even though they may be more stiff. Arch supports can help, and regular stretching of the calf muscles (especially for runners and others active in sports and fitness) provides additional help in relieving the condition (and hopefully reducing the chances of it happening again).

Research has shown that acupuncture can be effective in reducing the pain as well as the inflammation resulting from plantar fasciitis. One PubMed study suggested that acupuncture in combination with conventional treatment resulted in an 80% success rate, more effective that simply using conventional treatments alone.
